The film is just as bold as it is smart. The first part of the film particularly sets up a very strong story. As soon as the other girls join the team, display some huge chemistry and there is a lot of clever dialogue to offer.
The second half of the film loses a little energy, particularly in the time of the climatic parts when all the crime details are disclosed. Impressive performance by Sandra Bullock outshines the little flaws while making a plan of robbery.
Helena Bonham Carter and Anne Hathaway are bang on with their respective comic timing in the film. A compressed arrival by James Cordon right at the end jiggles things up very effectively.

Verified Purchase. Very disappointing. In no way does this movie compare to the Ocean's films. While I respect the work of most of the cast, this by far was not the best film for any of them.
In the current environment, I can understand the tendency for the studios in producing all-female remakes and reboots. But and this is a big but , the scripts need to be better and the casts need to have an organic chemistry that resonates on screen.
Ocean's 8 failed on multiple levels for me. I thought this film lived up to the expectations for fans of "The Oceans I think it was time there was an addition to the series using an all woman cast of thieves.
Headed by Sandra Bullock, who plays, uh, Debbie Ocean, that could have been written a bit better , the sister of the deceased, Danny Ocean, she is just released from prison and is hatching a plan for a major heist.
The film has beautiful costumes, a fun, interesting, high and low tech heist, and must be a new record for the number of great actresses, from Rhianna, and a darling neophyte, Awkwafina, who plays a street hustler and expert pickpocket who travels on her skateboard, to women we haven't seen in ages, like Marlo Thomas, and Elizabeth Ashley.
Their parts were basically cameos, but I just love the idea of them being included in the cast Cate Blanchette, Anne Hathaway, and Sarah Paulson held the major roles, and all did a good job.
This movie is a fun romp. It's not Shakespeare, and it's not supposed to be. It's a glitzy trip, following the characters, all gifted in their criminal specialty, or what becomes criminal, executing the elaborate plan to steal a million dollar diamond necklace loaned out for the party of the year in NYC.
Good direction, editing, and beautiful cinematography, no sad parts or deaths. Just a good time at the movies on a summer night. Boring characters, dull cliche heist narrative that's unoriginal even among Ocean's franchise standard.
I sense a strong pro-feminine direction in the film. All the main characters are strong women, theres no Male main characters.
I'm reserving judgement on whether a pro-female direction is a good or bad thing. I personally hate the movie, and feel it suffered due to miscasting; there's no charismatic Male characters in an OCEANS movie, a series that's famous for its strong Male leads that bring swagger.
Where's Brad Pitt or Clooney? Instead we get Sandra Bullock and Anne Hathaway who already is an actor with low likeability theres a whole group called Hathahaters that hate Anne Hathaway for a myriad of reasons.
I'm not a fan of Anne Hathaway, I feel she overacts. The movie sucks, dont waste your time even if it's free on HBO.
It's almost 2 hours of a boring and obscenely cliche diamond hesit, driven by uninteresting and dull characters, and no strong leads.
Poor casting, writing, acting, just about everything is crappy. Expected cheesy chick flick but loved Sandra Bullock so was fine with it.
Plot was on par with the other Ocean's movies with lots of twists and turns, gorgeous people and couture in lovely places.
